Carpets has produced the biggest handwoven silk carpet ever made in
Turkey. The carpet has an area of 85 sqm and was completed in four
years by 14 weavers. The company applied to Guinness World Records
for the title of biggest silk carpet.
Çepken Carpets that stepped into carpet business in mid 1950s accelerated
its production at the end of 1980s produces mainly silk carpets in
Kayseri to be marketed in the domestic market and for touristic shops
located in various provinces of Turkey. Çepken Carpets that has two
shops in Kayseri and Istanbul, in order to make a breakthrough in
the carpet sector, in 2000, hit the road with the idea of creating
a carpet that will be unique in the world with its size and prepared
the world's biggest hand-knotted silk carpet with a total area of
85 sqm and size of 11.20 x 7.64 m. The carpet, which has no counterpart
in the world, is as long as a bus and as wide as two cars next to
each other weighs around 450 kg. The silk carpet that was completed
by 14 weavers in 4 years was woven on a special loom using a type
of yarn brought from Brasil. The carpet that has 42 million knots
in total has a knot density of 49 knots per square centimeter.
